Change We Can

Time to Topple Arab Regimes

“It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” R. F. Kennedy.

As Arabs today, we are faced with two great immediate hindrances preventing colossal energies from coming to light: Impotence at the top and the risk of rage fatigue at the base.

The Official Arab regime, the Arab impotent Presidents for life, corrupt Kings and Emirs, through their Arab League have washed their hands off the Gaza ‘nuisance’ and had handed it out to the UNSC, hence to the American veto. The UNSC after hideous and shameful procrastinations finally issued a tepid, non-binding and spineless resolution very carefully and timidly “urging an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza,” with the US abstaining alone, after thirteen days of military aggression and mass killing. Only for the so-called resolution to be contemptuously dismissed by Israel as it has been doing for more than 60 years now.

The Egyptian government is deeply complicit in Israeli crimes and shares almost as much responsibility as that of the Israeli government; as are almost all Arab leaders, directly or indirectly, from the Atlantic to the Persian Gulf for this mass murder that amounts to genocide. No single Arab or Muslim leader has had the courage of a Hugo Chavez who’s just expelled the Israeli ambassador and his staff from Caracas.

There have been street protests and marches today throughout the World; more than two hundred different marches in Morocco alone according to Aljazeera.

What is really needed is for those regimes to be removed since no attempts for reform have led to anything concrete and at least have not prevented mass crimes from happening at the levels that we are witnessing today. I firmly believe that non violent resistance and carefully planned and coordinated actions may either push for those rotten regimes to change course or simply collapse.
